The goal for this project is to create a self-sustaining, brave and safe space for Black and African-American young adults who have been impacted by the child welfare system to make their experiences known, acknowledge systemic and cultural discrimination, and produce recommendations. In this space they will be able to share their experiences and challenges and then receive support for problem solving. For the young people impacted, sharing their testimonies will break community silence, provide opportunities for healing, and acknowledge the trauma and adversity experienced as a result of racist systems and practices. For participants bearing witness, the process is an opportunity to learn and take action toward a more just future for Black and African-American families in our state.
